My Review:
I'm sitting here and I don't even know how to start this review. I mean, what can I say that will possibly even convey the emotions I felt while reading this brilliant, heartbreaking story? I was on the edge of my seat at one in the morning not knowing how I wanted the book to end. I even messaged Rebecca about it because I was so torn!
Unbreakable will break you down. It will break you down and make you cry, laugh, yell, awe, and repeat.
Gabe Garcia's family happens to live across the street from Jess and her dad. His family treats her like one of their own. Jess's mom died when she was a young girl and her father, a fire chief, punked out (in my opinion). He didn't know how to be a father, so he threw himself into his work and pretty much ignored Jessica and allowed the Garcia's to practically raise her. Ava, Gabe's sister, is Jess's best friend and they do everything together. Jessica is a very outgoing happy go lucky person until one day the unthinkable happens.
"Being a wallflower is definitely not my style. I normally work the room; socializing, making the rounds-enjoying myself. I usually know everyone and am rarely the outsider."
What if one day something happens to you that changes your whole perspective of the world? What happens when everything you held safe in your life falls apart? Could you go on?
"You and I. Nothing will break us, ever. Not this. Do you hear me Jess? We're unbreakable."
Sometimes in the face of tragedy you don't feel unbreakable, you feel weak. You feel like you need a change. Jessica faces this challenge and the decisions she makes sets the course for what happens next. As Jess is trying to start over, she meets Landon (swoon). He happens to be her co-interns bad boy brother and someone that Jess is drawn to. I wasn't sure if I wanted her to end up with Gabe or Landon, but I definitely felt the connection between her and Landon and at one point I was leaning towards Team Landon. You can decide for yourself who you think she should choose. I don't want to tell you too much and take away from your reading experience but just know that there is an HEA and there is a Book 2 coming! Which, I need asap please Rebecca Shea!
*** Deleted Scene ***
New Years Eve-Gabe POV
Watching Jess juggle four glasses of champagne is almost humorous. She’s trying to squeeze her way through the small groups of people gathered in Luke’s apartment, and is holding the glasses above her head so they don’t get bumped. She’s wearing a too short black dress with high heels and stands taller than many of the people gathered around her. I love how those shoes make her legs look even longer. Later tonight, she’ll be in nothing but those heels and I can’t wait to wrap those legs around me.
“Let me help you,” I say reaching out to grab two of the glasses as she finally wiggles through the crowd.
“When did all these people get here? I was in the kitchen for three minutes and I think forty people showed up,” she laughs and shakes her head.
Ava steps up and takes a glass of champagne from me and Adrian takes a glass from Jess.
“Sixty seconds until the new year!” Ava announces and wraps her arm through Adrian’s, sidling up next to him. I pull Jess to my side as we all try to follow the countdown on the large screen TV in Luke’s living room. Jess laces her fingers through mine, and leans in pressing a light kiss to my lips.
“You’re suppose to kiss me at midnight,” I mumble against her lips.
“I can kiss you whenever I want Gabriel you’re mine now,” she smiles and presses another kiss to my lips. I love when she tells me I’m her. I’ve always been, she just never knew it.
Everyone in the room starts counting, “ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one…Happy New Year!” I pull Jess into me and plant a kiss on her soft lips. Her arms wrap around my neck as she deepens the kiss.
“You make me the happiest man alive Jess,” I whisper into her ear. She nips her teeth against the soft skin just below my ear and let’s out a low mewl.
“And you make me the happiest girl alive Mr. Garcia. Thank you for loving me,” she whispers back. “Now can you please take me home, I have other ideas of how I’d like to start my new year.”
