                                                   First Position

                         By Prescott Lane

4 Stars!

Emory faces life’s challenges at the one place that’s never failed her, the ballet barre. But even the barre can’t steady her when fate brings her face-to-face with her old college flame, Mason, who’s hoping to return to the NFL after a career-threatening injury. Before they can surrender to their sexual desires and find salvation in each other’s arms, they need to come to terms with their past. Mason must confront the demons that have set him on a path of self-destruction, while Emory must decide whether to keep her painful secrets locked away, or expose them and risk losing the love of her life. But nothing can prepare Mason for what Emory has kept hidden, or the possibility that he himself may be to blame for the very secrets she keeps – and why they continue to haunt her.

My Review:

When Emory was in college she lived for ballet. She was even accepted to a prestigious ballet company. Unfortunately, her boyfriend Mason has NFL aspirations that conflict with hers. After Mason breaks up with Emory she is devastated. Sadly, before she is even able to join the ballet company she is injured and can no longer dance at a professional level.

Fast forward six years...

One night Emory is at a bar when she bumps into Mason, literally. She is shocked to see the man who broke her heart many years ago. He is in town to possibly get a new NFL contract after his old team let him go due to injury.

Mason knows he screwed up when he let Emory go all those years ago. He is unhappily married to a woman who only married him for his fame and money but what does he expect? That's the lifestyle he wanted...or so he thought.

As they get to know each other again and catch up on each others lives, Mason can't shake thoughts of Emory. He is getting a divorce and a possible new location and decides he wants to be where Emory is. But can she forgive him for breaking her heart and choosing football over her?

Mason keeps things from Emory, small things, that he doesn't feel she needs to know. Emory get upset when she finds out and asks him to please be honest with her about everything if they are going to try again. But, Emory is keeping a big secret of her own. Will she tell Mason? How will he react? She can't keep her nightmare's a secret forever.

I thought this was a good easy read and the author Prescott Lane is a sweet sweet lady. I want to thank her for her patience with me on this review. I was sent a copy of this story in exchange for a fair review but unfortunately couldn't read it when I wanted due to a family illness. I was so glad to finally be able to read it and I look forward to more from her.

So Much it Hurts

By Melanie Dawn

My Review

4 Stars

I just turned the last page of this book on my Kindle and now I'm trying to get my thoughts together for this review.

Melanie Dawn is an excellent writer. This book flowed nicely and everything came together as a good book should.

As far as the actually story goes, I have mixed thoughts about how the characters handled certain situations and the ending itself. Being a stay at home mom myself, I definitely know the day to day stress it can bring. I know how many people think that stay at home moms have it easy and don't do much. I also know how that is completely untrue.

This book starts off present day with Kaitlyn Thomas, a stay at home mom, needing a break from the endless day to day chores life brings. She decides to go away with her friends on a little getaway, a weekend escape to the beach. Little does she know that her past will be catching up with her while she is there.

While at a bar, she runs into Chris King, a boy from her high school days who was there for her at a pivotal time when she needed him most. She realizes that the fierce attraction she felt all those years ago is still there. But what will she do about it, if anything?

Her friends, wanting to know more about this mysterious man from Kaitlyn's past, ask her to divulge the information. In order to do this, she must go back to the beginning.

The book then switches to her high school days, recounting the stories of her abusive high school boyfriend and when Chris King comes into her life and how he essentially saves her despite the consequences for himself.

Kaitlyn really aggravated me with the way she handled many things. I understood some of her decisions but others made me want to throw my precious Kindle at the wall!

Abuse is never okay, and I know its easier said then done but you should always seek help no matter the threat your abuser is using against you. Even if you are scared, try and be brave and get help.
There are people who will believe you.

I couldn't tear my eyes off of the pages. I kept reading and reading late at night until I felt my eyes get so heavy I started to read the same line over and over with no comprehension.

There really was no fair way for this book to end. Someone would end up getting hurt. I felt for Chris, he is such a great guy and he deserves so much goodness in his life. I felt for Kaitlyn and the choices she had to make. Although, I would have chosen a different ending, this book was an excellent read and I am eager to read more from Melanie Dawn in the future.

So Much it Hurts- Melanie Dawn

                          So Much it Hurts

                         By Melanie Dawn

Life is full of uncertainty, so what happens when a what-if from your past collides with your present?

Kaitlyn Thomas, a weary wife and mother, is taking a much needed getaway with her friends. All she wants to do is relax and rejuvenate on her weekend escape to the beach. Having a drink at the bar with the girls sounds like the perfect way to unwind. That is, until Kaitlyn hears a familiar voice from the stage that shakes her to her core. She grapples with her memory until Chris King, the lead singer of the band, walks up to her and eliminates the questions in her mind.
Chris King…the misunderstood bad boy who once saved her in ways that no one else could.
Kaitlyn’s friends beg to know the story behind this mystery man. Forced to revisit a painful past from which she has spent years trying to heal, Kaitlyn's recollection of Chris awakens intense feelings that she has kept buried deep inside her heart. Has time changed him, or is he still the same person Kaitlyn fell in love with so many years ago?
Marriage vows are sacred, but temptation is a powerful thing.
Seeing Chris again has caused a war between her head and her heart. In the end, which one will win the battle? Facing a difficult decision, Kaitlyn just wants to be sure of one thing when she walks away from this weekend—no regrets.

I sat with my back to the stage. My friends and I were laughing hysterically at the fools we had made of ourselves during our poor rendition of Aretha Franklin’s song, Respect. Downing a few drinks prior to our performance gave me enough liquid courage to embarrass myself on stage. I had immersed myself so deeply in the conversation that I barely noticed karaoke had ended and a band had started setting up on stage.
In the background, a voice emerged from the microphone. “Testing…one, two, three. Testing…”
The hair on the back of my neck stood upright. My body seemed to recognize the smooth and soothing voice, but my mind could not recall it. I quickly spun around in my seat and peered at the figure on stage. However, we sat too far away, and the terrible lighting in the bar restricted my view.
“What’s the matter, Kaitlyn?” Shannon sounded concerned. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“That voice…it sounds so familiar. I’ve heard it before,” I stammered.
