                                         My Review:

A Love Like This is the third book in the Remembrance Trilogy from Kahlen Aymes. I was so lucky to receive ARC copies of all three books for fair reviews. This was my first time reading something by this author and she did not disappoint. The first book in the series, The Future of Our Past is great, although a bit repetitive towards the middle/end. In the first book we meet Ryan and Julia and see how it all began. In the second book, Don't Forget to Remember Me, Ryan and Julia deal with significant heartbreak but manage to pull their relationship through stronger than ever. Kahlen Aymes writing was even better than the first book. The third and final book in the series, A Love Like This, was exceptional, the writing top notch. The author once again takes us on an emotional roller coaster except this time I wasn't sure of the outcome. You still feel the "mad mad love" Ryan and Julia share however, there is also heartbreak, anger, frustration, and gut wrenching sadness. All of the books are told from both P.O.V.'s, which I love as you get a better understanding of what each character is thinking.

Ryan and Julia are supposed to be at a point in their relationship where they can finally be happy. However, as always, their careers get in the way. With Ryan at the hospital working in the ER 80 hours a week and Julia's flourishing career at Vogue magazine they seem to be more like strangers rather than newlyweds.

They would love to start a family and as they are about to embark on this journey tragedy enfolds. Ryan is attacked in the ER after a young patient in a gang related shooting is lying on his table. When the leader of the other gang invades the hospital and opens fire, Ryan's ER nurse Jane, pushes him out of the way and is shot herself in the lower torso. As Jane's life is threatened Ryan does everything he can to save her as she has just saved him.

Jane (manipulative wench!) is heartbroken by the results that the injury she sustained caused her. She leans on Ryan to help her get through it all and an emotional bond is formed. Ryan, already having too much on his plate is completely overwhelmed with all that has transpired. How is he going to juggle work, his marriage and Jane without everything falling apart?

As Ryan and Jane get closer, Ryan and Julia grow further apart. Julia's trust in Ryan wanes and her jealousy takes over. Ryan is oblivious of Jane's want for him and puts blinders up to how it looks to Julia. (grrrr) They are both crushed by the stress of it all. I  really wanted to get in their damn faces and scream and yell at them to smarten up. They love each other too much and have a bond too strong to keep being miserable. They are supposed to get their HEA!!! They deserve it dangit. Kahlen Aymes writing is so good in this book that you can't help but feel like you are there watching everything as it happens. You feel how they feel. When they have sexy time you better watch out because they are H.O.T. together! You root and cheer for them to make it through because there aren't two other people more perfect for each other than them.

"Nothing had changed the love; sometimes suffocating, sometimes debilitating, sometimes so joyous and incredible, but always overwhelming and utterly amazing. The mad mad love remained, maybe stronger and more than it had ever been. Always growing, no matter what we faced. It had always been unconditional, nothing could ever change it. Not in this lifetime or a thousand more. No matter how much we hurt each other, t he love was still strong enough to make us invincible, or kill us both."

Fun Facts:

Kahlen

Used to teach ballroom dancing.
Spent lots of time doing Community Theater including Grease, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and others.
Loves to Roller Skate.
Once jumped naked from a hot tub into a snow bank. (Boy, was that stupid!)

 Julia:

Learned to cook because her mother and father divorced and her dad only made eggs and toast.
First drawing was at age 5 at her grandparent's house.  Drew an angle from the back of an old album cover but the image was too big for the note paper she was using.  So, she improvised by gluing more sheets together to continue the drawing beyond the original paper's edge.
Hates to fish but would never tell her father.
Got expelled from school for 4 hours because she broke a bully's glasses in defense of a friend.
Loves how Ryan's stubble feels against her skin, even if it leaves marks.

 Ryan:

He and a group of friends, taped a bunch of condom balloons all over the classroom door of high school math teacher; Mr. Weiner.   (Yes, you aren't imagining it.  Mr. Weiner.  I mean, seriously?  Who could resist?)
Was his music teacher's favorite student.
Almost made the mistake of his life when he came close to attending UCLA instead of Stanford.
Carried his brother, Aaron, three blocks home when he broke his ankle falling out of neighbor's tree.
Was always popular with the ladies.

Forbids Julia to buy any  brand of jeans other than Miss Me's since he loves seeing the M (for Matthews) branded on her rear. (She was wearing them when they met and he considers it a sign.)

*EXCERPT*

Once again, it was after midnight when I arrived home and as usual, I was beat. My back ached. After Jane and I returned from our dinner break, we had an automobile accident and five victims, three of them critical, one a three-year-old boy. He made it, but his mother did not. I’d worked on her tirelessly for twenty-five minutes when she flat-lined, but it was useless. She wasn’t wearing a seat belt, and her frontal lobe was mashed into the windshield at fifty miles per hour.
Julia stirred when I moved around the dark bedroom. “Ryan, are you here?” Her voice was soft and laced with sleep.
“Yes, baby,” I answered, reaching out to rub her back gently through the blanket. We kept it cool in the bedroom; cooler than the rest of the apartment. Julia liked the thick comforter and snuggling close to me, but I was always warm, “Don’t wake up. I’ll come to bed soon.” My fingers played in the dark strands of her hair.
She was on her stomach and turned her face toward me on her pillow. “How was your night?”
“Busy. Not great. Had a car accident victim that didn’t make it.”
“Oh… I’m sorry, honey.” Julia’s eyes glittered in the dark and her hair was all messy. She reached for me and I took her hand in mine, bringing it to my lips. She was so soft and alluring, and dead tired or not, my dick stiffened and started to throb. I was sitting on the bed now and hoped Julia didn’t notice. It had been my plan to finish the note and then sleep, but my body had other ideas.
“I need to take a shower, babe.”
“No, you don’t.” Julia moved up onto her knees and sat on her heels. One hand held the comforter to her breasts, but her shoulders were bare. I wanted to reach out and yank it from her, exposing the beauty I knew lay beneath. I leaned in to kiss the one closest to me. Her hand wound in my hair and began to gently scratch my scalp. It felt amazing and I let my forehead drop into the curve of her neck. “I can give you a massage.”
“Mmm…” I moaned. “That sounds like heaven, but if you touch me, I’ll wanna make love.”
